Tape interview with Rob Barker and Carl Timms of Pressure DVD, recorded 12th October 2005

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us guys. What can we expect from The Russian Campaign?

C: We’re focusing on the xball. There’s 7-man stuff there too, but as a format xball works so well – it’s like it was designed to be filmed for an audience.

R: The thing about Euroball, which was the previous tournament we filmed, was the final - Syndicate and Camp Tigers. Great teams, but because of the format no-one wanted to move cos they knew if they lost one point it was over...

C: The thing with xball is because there are so many more points to be gained, if you’re losing, you can try something - all it takes is one genius move, a long run and you’re back in it. So it does lead to some amazing drama. There were two games in particular at Campaign that showed this – Ducks vs Stockholm Joy and London Tigers vs Joy, both of which went right down to the wire – one point in them. They’re real battles, just the balance of power going back and forth as they shave points off each other, and we’ve just been able to completely go to town with these games for the DVD.

R: Then at the opposite end of the scale you’ve got things like the gulf in class between the US teams and some of the newer Euro teams – 20-nil scorelines which are just a lesson in paintball and fantastic fun to watch.

C: It’s all in there. We cover everything from the exhibition match beforehand to the finals and beyond, with all the stories, the grudges, shocks, everything, but trying to find the answer to the question on everybody lips – ‘how can anyone beat Russian Legion?’ Of course after months in the editing suite poring over their games, we know the answer...

R: Hang on. Should we be talking about this?

C: Sure! Chill! Okay – the way you beat Russian Legion is you just –

Tape ends.
